Feedback
A big thank you for the wonderful feedback from our listeners and newsletter subscribers!
"About 2 months ago I started to collect the cold water that would ordinarily go down the drain before it turns warm into an empty one gallon plastic water jug. I fill the container about 2 to 3 times a day and I use the collected water on my indoor and outdoor plants.
Imagine if we all did this."
"I just read your latest newsletter. Thank you for keeping Haiti in the forefront of our minds and hearts. News does become old fast and so we definitely cannot talk about it too much. Thank you for reminding everyone to do something. Anything." -- Linda S.
"Glad to hear you're enjoying your new Honda Insight. I bought the first one off the lot in 2000. It was the little two seater and I drove it for 75,000 miles averaging 59.2 mpg. I had one run from Tucson to LA and back and averaged 70 mpg. It was a great little car but only a two seater and so I couldn't take grandkids requiring car seats in it, so I traded it in for a Civic Hybrid, which averages about 42 mpg for it's first 97,000 miles. I'm waiting for the plug-in hybrids or perhaps all electric, although the new Insight sounds tempting." -- Bill, Tucson AZ
"As editor of our Civano neighborhood paper, I would like to use the helpful green tips from your newsletter in our next edition." -- Susan C, Tucson

Green Tip of the Week:
Add an environmental cause to your charitable giving.
Mrs. Green’s comment: the causes abound! Whether it’s a local one, a national one or an international one, be part of something dedicated to the preservation of the planet. And if a cash contribution is an issue, there are hundreds of volunteer opportunities. In Tucson, we have World Care and Tucson Clean and Beautiful. Don’t forget about our oceans – Marine Conservation Biology Institute is a choice for you to consider. |

Jason Tankersly and Amanda Tankersly Myers: The Fairfax Companies!
I am over-the-top excited to welcome Jason back to our show and to introduce his sister, Amanda, who will explain her new role at the company. People all over Tucson and the country have heard me wax poetic about the mission, vision and commitment to the environment that this company personifies. Jason only sees solutions to the world's sustainability challenges (including trying to figure out how to attack the floating plastic garbage islands in the world's oceans) and Amanda has joined the Tucson team to help spread the company's message to the community. The only way for you to truly grasp the incredible scope and magnitude of The Fairfax Companies' vision for and commitment to making the world a better, more sustainable, healthier place is to tune in and listen to them! Please do.

Jeffrey Smith - Seeds of Deception
The challenge when you get excited about almost everything in your world is how to convey and sustain that excitement when sharing the message. In short, I hope I don't choke on this interview. Jeffrey Smith's book was life changing to me - it's that simple. It wasn't like a light bulb went off. It was more like my head exploded and I walked around in a stupor for awhile after I read it. "Genetically modified food" was not a phrase I remember hearing in my first fifty-eight years on the planet. I am not sure I knew who Monsanto was nor did I know the United States food supply was controlled by a very few. There are days when I may have thought that "ignorance is bliss" thing, but the "to know better is to do better" thing always kicks in. You will know better and do better when you tune in to hear Jeffrey Smith's message.

Elizabeth Fournier - The Green Reaper
When I received an email from this woman telling me about her career as a green mortician, I totally admit I cracked up. My parents raised me to not be afraid to talk about nor fear death. As my Dad used to say: "It's inevitable." Elizabeth wrote: "Although green burial is a hot topic, the public is not too familiar with what it really means. So what is this all about? Natural burial means no embalming, no elaborate casket, no burial vault. Just a body returning to the earth. The concept is quite basic if you consider the beautiful simplicity of ashes to ashes, dust to dust. And green burials can also help save a different kind of green: the kind found in people's wallets. I would love the opportunity to stimulate your listeners regarding this unusual topic." Don't be afraid. Join me.

Manish Shad and Roxanne Garcia - Tucson Farmers Market
Farmers Markets all over the country are exploding. This show will highlight the three Farmers Markets operated by these two outstanding individuals. The Tucson Farmers Market has become one of the largest farmers' markets in southwestern Arizona and has a regional reputation for the number of local farmers it supports, its high quality farm products, and the diversity of local products on hand. Truth be told, I have never met a tomato at the St. Philip's location that I didn't like and Mr. Green and I rarely miss a Sunday morning visit. Manish and Roxanne will share their story of what got them started, how the local community has embraced farmers market and where they see things going. And I hope they bring me a cinnamon crisp. Not very green but we all have our vices. Join the fun.

The Tucson Festival of Books (TFOB)
Live from the University of Arizona's campus. Join Mrs. Green and Janice and Rick Ulrich from Elastek at this exciting celebration of literacy. TFOB is a success story from start to finish. In its first year, it attracted over 450 authors and presenters and over 40,000 visitors per day. This year's Festival is well on its way to being another incredible success. All of the details for this show have not been finalized at press time but Mrs. Green hopes to interview authors with national reputations in the sustainability field - maybe even corner Bill Viner, the Festival's passionate visionary, and hear from Janice and Rick Ulrich about why they stepped up to the plate to sponsor and support Mrs. Green's participation in this community extravaganza. Tune in or come join the fun.
